Connected WiFi Info

Effective date:
14 October 2026
Last updated:

1. Introduction and scope

This Privacy Policy explains what information Connected WiFi Info (the "App"), an Android application published by Aivio Apps, reads, stores and sends, who receives it, and what choices you have. It applies only to the App. Our website has its own privacy policy.

When you first open the App you are shown a short summary of this policy and asked to accept it. This document is the full version. By using the App you acknowledge it. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

2. Summary

  • The App shows details about the Wi-Fi network you are connected to, monitors your connection, scans for nearby Wi-Fi networks, and runs connectivity, ping and speed tests.
  • Your network details, test results and connection history are stored on your phone. We do not receive them, we have no servers that collect them, and the App has no accounts.
  • The App never reads your Wi-Fi password and never reads your location. Android requires location or nearby-devices permission before it will show a Wi-Fi name or scan for networks, and that is the only reason the App asks for it.
  • Tests that you start contact Internet servers, such as Cloudflare and Google. Those servers see your IP address like any website would.
  • The App is free and shows ads served by Google AdMob. Google may collect device identifiers such as your advertising ID, and the App asks for your consent first where the law requires it.
  • You can delete your history at any time in Settings, and change your ad choices there where they are available.
  • We do not sell your personal information.

3. Information the App reads on your device

To provide its features, the App reads the following from Android. It is shown on your screen and, where noted below, saved on your phone.

Current Wi-Fi connection
Network name (SSID), access point identifier (BSSID), signal strength (dBm), frequency, channel and channel width, link speed, security type and Wi-Fi standard.
Network addressing and state
IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, default gateway, DNS servers, network interface name, proxy settings, whether a VPN is active, whether the connection is metered, and whether Android has validated the Internet connection or detected a captive portal.
Nearby Wi-Fi networks (Scanner)
When you open the scanner, the name, BSSID, signal strength, channel, security type and Wi-Fi standard of access points around you, as returned by Android. This list is shown on screen and is not saved.
Connection history
If history is on: the networks you connect to (SSID and BSSID), when you connected and disconnected, signal-strength samples, Internet outages and other connection events. See the Connection history section.
Test results
Results of ping and speed tests you run (target, latency, packet loss, download and upload speed, jitter, server name and time).
Your settings and choices
Theme, refresh and monitoring options, notification choices, history on or off, ping target, and the versions of the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use you accepted.
Local counters
Small counters kept on your device to decide how often ads and the rating request are shown, such as how many tests you completed and when an ad or rating request last appeared.

Some of this information, such as SSID, BSSID and IP addresses, can identify a network or a place. The App treats it as sensitive.

What the App does not access: your location, your Wi-Fi password or the saved passwords of other networks, your contacts, photos, files, microphone, camera, messages, call history or browsing history.

4. Connection history and statistics

When Save connection history is on in Settings (it is on by default), the App records on your phone the Wi-Fi networks you connect to and how your connection behaves: sessions with SSID and BSSID, start and end times, signal-strength samples, connection events, and your ping and speed test results. The App uses this to draw its History and Statistics screens.

  • Storage: this data is kept in a database on your phone and is not uploaded by the App.
  • Automatic deletion: sessions, signal samples and connection events older than 30 days are deleted when the App starts. Ping and speed test results are kept until you clear them.
  • Your control: turn history off in Settings, delete one session, use Clear history, or use Clear local data. Clearing is permanent. Uninstalling the App removes all of it.
  • Backups: the history database is excluded from Android cloud backup and from device-to-device transfer.

5. Background monitoring and notifications

Background monitoring is off by default. If you turn it on in Settings, the App runs a foreground service with an ongoing notification so it can keep watching your Wi-Fi connection while the App is closed. This uses extra battery. You can stop it from the notification or in Settings.

Notifications (connection changes, weak signal and Internet outages) are optional. Their content, such as the network name and signal strength, is created on your phone and shown on your phone. You can turn each type off in Settings or in Android's notification settings.

6. Information sent off your device

Connected WiFi Info does not send your Wi-Fi details, history or test results to Aivio Apps, and we operate no server that receives them. We do not use analytics or crash-reporting services of our own in the App.

The App does connect to the following third-party services. Each sees ordinary connection data, such as your IP address, the time of the request and your device's network characteristics, and handles it under its own privacy policy.

Speed test: Cloudflare (speed.cloudflare.com)
Only when you start a speed test. The App downloads about 25 MB and uploads about 8 MB of test data over HTTPS and measures latency. No personal information is included in the data.
Internet test and Troubleshooter: Google (connectivitycheck.gstatic.com)
Only when you run those tests. The App looks up the address of this host and requests a small HTTPS page that returns no content, to check whether the Internet is reachable. Your DNS provider also sees the lookup.
Ping test: the target you choose
Only when you run a ping. The target is 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare), 8.8.8.8 (Google) or your own router (the default gateway). The App sends ICMP echo requests, or opens TCP connections if ICMP is blocked, and times the reply.
Ads: Google AdMob
While you use the App, subject to your consent where required. See the Advertising section.
Ad consent: Google User Messaging Platform
Checks whether you need to be asked for consent in your region, shows the consent form and records your choice.
Rating request: Google Play In-App Review
At a suitable moment the App may ask whether you would like to rate it, using Google Play's rating sheet. Google handles anything you submit there.

Contacting support is optional. If you use Email support in Help & support, the App opens your own email app with a draft message that includes the App version, Android version and phone model. It never includes your network name, addresses or location. You can edit the message before sending, and nothing is sent until you do.

7. Permissions

The App declares the following Android permissions. You can review or withdraw the ones that need your approval in your device settings, although some features may then stop working.

INTERNET
Run the tests you start and load ads.
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE
Read connectivity and link properties such as IP address, gateway, DNS, VPN and metered state.
ACCESS_WIFI_STATE
Read the details of the Wi-Fi connection so they can be displayed.
CHANGE_WIFI_STATE
Ask Android to start a scan for nearby Wi-Fi networks. The App does not connect to, disconnect from or change any network.
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION and ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION
Android requires one of these before it returns the Wi-Fi network name and BSSID, or allows a Wi-Fi scan, on many versions. The App does not read your location and does not use it for any other purpose. Location services must also be switched on in Android for these Wi-Fi details to appear.
NEARBY_WIFI_DEVICES (Android 13 and higher, declared with the never-for-location flag)
The modern permission for discovering nearby Wi-Fi networks. It is used only for Wi-Fi scanning and is not used to derive your location.
POST_NOTIFICATIONS (optional)
Show the notifications you enable.
FOREGROUND_SERVICE and FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE (optional)
Run background monitoring, only after you turn it on.
com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID
Lets Google's advertising services read your Android advertising ID, as described in the Advertising section.

If you deny the location or nearby-devices permission, the App still runs, but the network name may appear as unknown and the scanner will not work. If you deny notifications, alerts are not shown.

8. Advertising and consent

The App is free and supported by ads from Google AdMob, a service of Google LLC. It shows an adaptive banner on browsing screens such as Home, Wi-Fi Details, Local Network, the Scanner, Tests, History and Statistics, and a full-screen ad after you finish a test, a troubleshooter run or a scan. Ads are not shown during onboarding, while a test is running, or on screens that display network identifiers, such as the Diagnostic Report, Advanced Information, Settings and Permissions.

When ads are requested or shown, Google and its partners may collect or receive:

  • your Android advertising ID and similar device identifiers;
  • your IP address, from which an approximate location may be derived;
  • device and app information, such as device model, operating system version, language, and app name and version;
  • ad interaction information, such as ads viewed or clicked.

Google uses this to deliver, measure and personalise ads and to prevent fraud and abuse. Your Wi-Fi details, history and test results are not given to Google by the App.

Consent. The App starts the Google Ads SDK only after you have accepted this policy and, where the law requires it (for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland), after Google's consent form has recorded your choice. You can review or change your choice at any time in Settings > Privacy > Ad privacy choices, where that option is shown for your region.

Other controls on Android:

  • Settings > Privacy > Ads (the path varies by device): reset your advertising ID or opt out of ad personalisation.
  • Settings > Google > Ads: manage ad personalisation for your Google account.

The App is distributed through Google Play. Google Play and Google Play services process data about your device and installation under Google's own privacy policy.

9. Sharing and exporting

You can copy values, share a ping result and share a Diagnostic Report. These actions use Android's copy and share features and happen only when you tap them. The Diagnostic Report is plain text that can include your network name, BSSID, IP addresses, gateway, DNS servers and connection details, and the App warns you before you share it. Whoever you send it to, and the app you send it with, will receive that information, so review it first.

10. How we use information

Information handled by the App is used only to:

  • display Wi-Fi and network information and diagnose connection problems;
  • record the history and statistics you have switched on, on your device;
  • send you the notifications you have enabled;
  • show ads and ask for ad consent, through Google;
  • remember your settings and which version of these documents you accepted;
  • keep the App working and secure.

If you email us, we use what you send (such as your email address and message) only to reply to you and to improve the App.

11. Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your Wi-Fi details, history or test results with anyone. Information goes to others only:

  • to the services described in the Information sent off your device and Advertising sections, which receive the technical data described there;
  • where we are required to do so by law, by a court order or by a public authority;
  • where it is reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety or security.

12. Storage, retention and deletion

  • On your device: settings, counters and your acceptance of these documents are stored in the App's private storage. Connection history, statistics and test results are stored in the App's local database, as described above.
  • On our side: we hold no database of your Wi-Fi details or any user profile, because the App has no accounts and sends us nothing.
  • Deleting: use Clear history or Clear local data in Settings (this removes history, statistics and test results and keeps your settings), or uninstall the App to remove everything it stored on your device.
  • Android backup: the App allows Android's automatic backup, but excludes its history database. Your app settings may be included in your Google backup under Google's terms.
  • Google and Cloudflare: data they receive is kept under their own policies. To manage advertising data, use the controls described in the Advertising section and your Google account at https://myaccount.google.com.
  • Email: if you email us, we keep the correspondence only as long as needed to handle your request and for ordinary record-keeping. You can ask us to delete it.

13. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect information handled by the App. Your network details and history stay on your phone, in storage that other apps cannot normally read, and are not transmitted by us, which limits exposure. Tests use HTTPS where applicable. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Keeping your device locked and your Android version up to date helps protect you.

14. Children's privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13, or under any higher minimum age that applies in your country. The App does not knowingly serve ads to users who are under the applicable age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us at Aivio.Apps@hotmail.com and we will delete it.

15. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live (for example under the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation, or under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended), you may have the right to:

  • ask whether we hold personal information about you, and ask for a copy of it;
  • ask us to correct or delete it;
  • restrict or object to certain processing;
  • withdraw consent you have given, at any time, without affecting earlier processing;
  • not be discriminated against for exercising your rights;
  • lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

We hold very little personal information about App users, usually only an email you choose to send us. Most of your data is on your device, where you can view and delete it yourself in the App. To make a request, email Aivio.Apps@hotmail.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting, and we will respond within the time required by law. Requests about advertising data held by Google, or about test traffic received by Cloudflare or Google, must be made to those companies.

California residents. We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising through our own systems. Google, as an advertising provider, may process advertising identifiers as described in the Advertising section. You can limit this through the ad privacy choices in Settings and your device's advertising settings.

16. International transfers

Google and Cloudflare may process data on servers in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, they rely on lawful transfer mechanisms such as standard contractual clauses. See their privacy policies for details.

18. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the App, the services it uses or the law changes. The "Last updated" date shows the latest revision. If a change is significant, the App will ask you to accept the new version, and we will highlight it on the page where this policy is published. Using the App after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.

19. Contact us
