About this app

Connected WiFi Info shows details about the Wi-Fi network your Android device is connected to, such as network name, signal strength, frequency, channel, link speed and addressing information. It can monitor your connection over time, scan for nearby Wi-Fi networks and analyse channel use, and run Internet, ping and speed tests with a step-by-step troubleshooter. Connection history and statistics stay on your phone. The app is free and supported by ads. Which details are available depends on your Android version and the permissions you grant.

What you can see about your connected Wi-Fi

Android keeps a lot of information about the network you are on, but it is spread across settings screens. Connected WiFi Info puts the useful parts in one place.

Network name (SSID) and BSSID
The name of the Wi-Fi network and the identifier of the router or access point your phone is connected to.
Wi-Fi signal strength
Signal level in dBm (RSSI) with a simple rating, plus a live chart with current, average, minimum and maximum values.
Band, frequency and channel
Whether you are on 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz or 6 GHz, the exact frequency, the channel and the channel width.
Link speed and Wi-Fi standard
The transmit and receive link speed negotiated with your router and the Wi-Fi standard in use.
Security type
The security mode of the network you are connected to, shown next to the rest of the connection details.
IP address, gateway and DNS
Your IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, default gateway, DNS servers, subnet mask, MTU and proxy settings, with one-tap copy.
Internet and connection status
Whether Android has validated your Internet connection, whether a captive portal is blocking it, and whether a VPN or metered connection is in use.

How to check your connected Wi-Fi details on Android

You can see the full picture of your current Wi-Fi connection in a few taps.

  1. Connect your phone to the Wi-Fi network you want to check.
  2. Open Connected WiFi Info. The Home screen shows whether you are connected, whether the Internet works, your signal strength, latency, band and link speed.
  3. Tap Wi-Fi Details for the network name, BSSID, channel, channel width, security and signal level.
  4. Tap Local Network for your IP address, gateway, DNS servers, subnet mask and proxy, and copy any value you need.
  5. If the network name shows as Unknown, allow the location or Nearby devices permission and make sure Location is switched on. Android requires this before it shows a Wi-Fi name.
  6. If something is not working, run the connection test or the troubleshooter to find out which step is failing.

Frequently asked questions

How do I see which Wi-Fi network I am connected to on Android?

Open Connected WiFi Info and look at the Home screen, which shows the network you are connected to with its signal strength, band and link speed. Wi-Fi Details adds the BSSID, channel, channel width, security type and Wi-Fi standard.

Why does my Wi-Fi name show as Unknown?

Android only gives apps the Wi-Fi name when location access is allowed and the phone's location switch is on. Allow location (or Nearby devices on newer Android versions) in the app's permissions and turn Location on in your quick settings. The app does not read your location for any other purpose.

How do I find my IP address, gateway and DNS on my phone?

Open the Local Network screen. It lists your IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, the default gateway (your router), primary and secondary DNS servers, subnet mask, MTU and any proxy, and lets you copy each value.

What is a good Wi-Fi signal strength in dBm?

Signal is shown in dBm, and the number closer to zero is stronger. Around -50 dBm is excellent, -60 to -70 dBm is good, and below -80 dBm is weak. Readings move as you walk around or as other networks change, so use them as a guide.

Does a speed test use my mobile data?

Yes. The speed test downloads about 25 MB and uploads about 8 MB over whichever connection you are using. Run it on Wi-Fi, and keep the confirmation option on in Settings if you have a limited data plan.

Does the app read my Wi-Fi password or track my location?

No. The app never reads your Wi-Fi password and never reads your location. Your network details and connection history are stored on your phone only. Tests you start contact Internet servers, such as Cloudflare and Google.

Is Connected WiFi Info free, and which Android versions does it support?

The app is free and supported by ads, with consent choices where the law requires them. It supports Android 8.0 and later. Some details depend on your device, Android version and the permissions you grant.

Can it find out why my Wi-Fi is slow or not working?

The troubleshooter runs six checks: Wi-Fi connection, IP setup, router reachable, DNS, Internet access and network validation. If one fails, it suggests what to try, such as reconnecting or checking your router. You can also run ping and speed tests, and a channel analysis of nearby networks.
